Vincere, JobAdder and Recruitly are widely used in UK and Australasian agency recruitment and almost entirely absent from the comparison articles written for the US market. That matters, because advice built around Greenhouse and Lever does not describe the stack a British agency actually runs, and the integration questions are different.
This covers where each sits, what an evidence layer adds to it, and how to add one without a development project.
Why the US Comparisons Miss
American listicles compare corporate applicant tracking systems, because the US market is dominated by in-house talent teams. UK recruitment has a far larger agency sector, and an agency needs a CRM as much as an ATS: client relationships, placements, margin, redeployment, temporary worker compliance.
The practical consequence is that a British agency reading a US comparison is shown products that do not model its business, then wonders why the shortlist of options feels wrong. Bullhorn dominates the upper end of UK agency use. Below and alongside it sit Vincere, JobAdder and Recruitly, each with a distinct centre of gravity.
Where Each One Sits
Vincere
Built for agencies from the outset, with strong front and back office coverage and a following among perm and executive search firms that want pipeline, analytics and billing in one place. Agencies choose it when they want an opinionated system rather than a configurable one.
JobAdder
Strong in Australasia and well established in the UK, with a reputation for straightforward implementation and a broad integration marketplace. Agencies choose it when they want something their consultants will actually adopt without a long project.
Recruitly
UK-focused and typically adopted by smaller and mid-sized agencies wanting modern tooling without enterprise cost or complexity. Notably, it appears on our own integrations roadmap, which is disclosure rather than endorsement.
All three do the agency job properly. None of them was built to read a CV against a client's essential criteria and tell you which requirements are evidenced, because that is a different problem.
What the Evidence Layer Adds
An agency CRM records what you know about a candidate. It does not assess a submission against a client's stated requirements.
The output that changes a client conversation is the distinction between claimed and evidenced. "Five of your six essentials are evidenced in this CV, the sixth is claimed without supporting detail, and here is the text behind each" is a materially stronger submission than a CV and a covering note. It shortens client review, reduces rejections, and tells the consultant exactly what to probe.
That is additive to all three systems rather than competitive with any of them.
Adding It Without a Development Project
Start with CSV. All three systems export candidate data and import structured files, and CSV covers far more than agencies expect. Prototype for a month with no development spend, confirm the value, then automate only if volume justifies it.
Where an API exists on both sides, a direct integration removes the manual step. Sequence matters: prove the benefit on one desk first. Agencies that begin with an integration project frequently spend the budget before discovering whether the workflow change was worth it.
The Practical Flow
- Capture the client's actual essential and desirable criteria in writing, not the advert.
- Export the candidate CVs for the role from your CRM.
- Screen against the criteria, producing evidenced, claimed or missing per requirement.
- Import the ranked shortlist and rationale back as the submission record.
- Consultant reviews, decides, and submits with the evidence attached.
The Question to Ask Any Agency System Vendor
Several now advertise AI features. Most are assistive rather than evaluative, which is fine provided you know which you are buying. Four questions settle it.
- Does it score against the criteria I supply, or against a model of previous placements? Learning from past placements reproduces past placements.
- Can it produce a per-candidate written rationale I could show the candidate?
- Where is candidate data processed, and does any of it train a model?
- What is the maximum number of CVs in one batch?
If a vendor cannot answer the second question, the feature will not survive a client challenge or a subject access request.
The Compliance Reason This Matters More Now
Three changes inside a single year raised the value of a documented, dated screening record for UK agencies specifically.
From 6 April 2026, PAYE responsibility for umbrella company workers moved toward the agency closest to the end client. The Fair Work Agency, established that April, holds powers to inspect, compel documents and prosecute, and it inherited the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003. From 1 October 2026, section 48 of the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025 extended right to work obligations to workers under a worker's contract and to individual sub-contractors.
Each expects an agency to evidence what it did and when. A screening process that produces a reasoned record per candidate contributes to that, and the same record answers a client audit. A sift that happened in a consultant's head does not.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which of the Three Should We Choose?
On fit rather than feature count. Vincere suits agencies wanting an opinionated end-to-end system, JobAdder suits those prioritising adoption and integrations, Recruitly suits smaller agencies wanting modern tooling at lower cost. Trial with your own consultants, because adoption decides this more than functionality.
Do We Need an Evidence Layer If Our CRM Has AI?
Test the existing feature on a role you already filled. If it surfaces the person you placed and explains each ranking against your criteria, you have what you need.
Is CSV Really Adequate?
For a pilot and for many agencies permanently, yes. The manual step is a few minutes per campaign. Automate when volume makes that material, not before.
Will This Work for Temporary and Contract Desks?
Yes, and compliance screening matters more there. Be careful to keep the statutory right to work check as a separate prescribed process rather than something you infer from a CV.
What About Our Existing Candidate Database?
Screening an existing database is often higher value than screening new applications. Watch record currency, and take a view on lawful basis for re-processing candidates who have had no contact for years.
The Summary
UK agencies run UK agency systems, and the US comparisons do not describe them. Whichever of Vincere, JobAdder or Recruitly you use, the sift is a separate problem from the CRM, and it is solvable with CSV and a month of pilot rather than a migration.
Keep the system your consultants know. Add the evidence, and keep the judgement with the consultant.
